Pomiifruit are typically found wild in the tropical forests of Wukrii, but can be cultivated with enough care and the right climate. They are blue in color with a tough but edible skin and are known for their extremely sweet and sour gelatinous inner flesh which contain a variety of interconnected bulbous pieces which are the juicy and fleshy seedcoat that contains the edible seeds.
Wild pomiifruit are said to be the most abundant in wukai inhabited forests, particularly where the Brihoouki roam. As such, they aren’t as commonly seen due to humans and demimons being wary of traversing into wukai territory, and are highly prized in markets. The cultivated varieties look exactly the same but the sweet and sour notes are less intense. Because of the contrast of the very sour with the sweet, these are favorites for jams, fillings, preserves, and juices. Due to their gelatinous consistency and taste they have also been used for gummies, fruit snacks, and related treats. These are a big hit with the youth.
It is said that the wild varieties are believed to have a very mild hallucinogenic effect when eaten freshly of the tree, but some feel that reputation has been a bit overblown and is mostly ascribed to the initial intense flavor people describe, who can say for certain? It adds to the mystique and popularity of the fruit however amongst it’s fans.
